During the course of the afternoon, several officials of “DIRESA” (the State Health Authority in Apurimac) worked diligently on some documents. Then, just before 7pm, Dr John received the papers in Abancay. The documents included:
DIRESA recognizes Diospi Suyana as a hospital
The Operating Rooms can be opened
The Pharmacy can stock restricted narcotics (important for surgeries)
As is almost always the case in Peru, the last remaining certificate has to come from Lima (Peru’s capital). On Thursday the mission doctor will travel to Lima to submit the documents in hand. In any case, the presentation from yesterday evening was at least worth a nice photo!
