A kind of premiere

Dr Fritz Meiswinkel drives a nail into a fracture of the upper arm

60-year-old Don Gregorio works as a builder in the city of Abancay.  One short moment of inattentiveness and it has happened.  He falls off the ladder landing on his left arm.  He hears an awful cracking and the intense pain makes him gasp for air.

The state hospital quickly diagnoses “humerus shaft fracture”, but cannot say when the operation can take place, since it appears that they do not have the necessary implants.  Full of hope the patient drives 90 minutes over a 4,000m high pass to Curahuasi.

A set of nails for fractures of the upper arm.

Dr Fritz Meiswinkel is definitely the right address for Don.  Thanks to the generosity of an operation-manager of a hospital in Southern Germany our traumatologist has a complete set of humerus (upper arm) titanium nails.

The operation went well and the patient is already back home.  As far as we know this was the first time such an operation was performed at the Hospital Diospi Suyana.
