Preparing for the start of the School’s fourth year

All members of staff of the Diospi-Suyana-School are getting ready for the new school year, which starts on 1st March: choosing textbooks, developing their year’s programmes, preparing lessons, planning school events, setting up their classrooms, undergoing further training, discussing school life from A to Z and much, much more.

The “Profesores” have one month for this and are looking forward to the moment when the school buildings will be buzzing with activity.

The application process for new pupils has been in full swing since November: visiting their homes, interviewing their parents, placement tests and small psychological checks.  Those of them, who want to be sponsored, are tested thoroughly in regard to their financial situation.

But it is not the case that there are absolutely no pupils in the school during the holidays.  On the contrary, a total of 50 pupils have to attend four weeks of extra tuition in order to prepare for re-examination tests.  That is part of what a school that strives for quality has to do.  Sadly, the Colegio Diospi Suyana is the only school in the area that seriously performs such programmes. Generally in Peru all pupils are moved into the next form, since the schools shy away from all the work that these extra tuition programmes entail.

On top of all this our building and maintenance team are often on site doing various jobs, on which Udo Klemenz reports on Fridays.

Cordial greetings from Christian Bigalke.
