Three million tourists

For Peru, Machu Picchu is a real gift. With over three million visitors a year who want to see the one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world, the tourism industry is the fourth most important source of income for the country.

Tourists line up at the gate. They want to see Machu Picchu.

Around thirty flights transport guests from around the world from Lima to Cusco everyday. In the ancient Inca capital waits a train that brings the newcomers to the legendary city of ruins.

If the tourist still has a little more time, they look around Cusco and take a trip to Lake Titicaca. At home they show their vacation photos of all the big attractions. However, most have seen little of the land itself and understood even less.

The hospital and the school of Diospi Suyana are only 50 kilometers from Machu Picchu, separated by a range of mountains.
