Visiting the Dean of the National Nurses’ Chamber

Open ears and an open heart – the head of 90,000 nurses

It is boiling hot weather in Lima; even the taxi driver is complaining about the heat on the roads.  At 3p.m. I arrive at the National Chamber of Peruvian Nurses.  I am not sure how much time the dean has for me, nor what I am to expect from this visit.

Fortunately, Lic. Mónica Yanet Rios Torres is very patient with me.  Our meeting lasts an hour and Diospi Suyana’s story gets under her skin.  What convinces her the most is the aspect of faith.  Subsequently we talk about our nurses’ licenses – Lic. Mónica Rios is fully focused and is keen to help.  Furthermore, the high-ranking official wants to visit the missionary hospital in March.

But to be honest, nothing is ever clear cut in Peru.  In the end however the maxim: ora et labora (pray and work) rules the day.  Without these two you will never make any progress. /KDJ
