Young woman becomes a victim of the strike by a hair’s breadth

This is their story

For weeks Rosa Perez (35) * has been in bad health. Both of her legs are swelling more and more. She becomes short of breath. Your pulse is racing. She feels completely powerless. And above all, she feels that things are very serious for her. In the big city of Andahuaylas (population 100,000), no one can or will help her. So her parents set off with her for Curahuasi. Hospital Diospi Suyana is located 210 km from Andahuaylas.

The three of them take a cab. But soon they are faced with a big hole in the overland road. Strikers dug it with the help of an excavator to paralyze traffic. The three – including the sick Rosa – now have to hike for an hour through the mountains until they finally find a ride again. In this style, they progress slowly. The journey takes 18 hours instead of four.

Yesterday morning, the family reached the mission hospital. Rosa was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit. As the diagnostics revealed, a pronounced hyperthyroidism (Hpyerthyreosis) was the reason for the pronounced heart failure.

No sooner had the heart and thyroid gland been appropriately treated than the patient was able to laugh a little again. Emergency medicine specialist Dr. Bejamin Zeier (right) is also confident about the future. The fact is, however, that the woman could have died on the way. Like Rosa, thousands and thousands are currently trying to get into hospitals in their respective regions. It is unfortunately true that the strike puts countless critically ill patients at great risk. (* name changed) /KDJ
