You learn to survive on the street

And perhaps even the most important thing

My cab driver honks like crazy and slams on the brakes at the same time. Suddenly and without warning, a bus has pulled into his lane from the right. You learn in 10 minutes on the streets of Lima that in life, strength is right. One has the bigger vehicle and the other has superior troops. Rules, laws and agreements lose their meaning in the fierce battle for every meter of ground. But peace, joy and fulfillment are not to be found with this tough elbowing.

Peru’s best-known TV presenter Nicolás Lúcar said in September 2022 in one of his TV shows: “I was at Diospi Suyana yesterday, the staff of the mission have a power that has overcome the selfishness of man!” An interesting statement from the mouth of an atheist.

A car pulls into our field of vision in front of our car. The sentence on its rear window makes me wonder: “Only God knows my destiny, my destination!” I immediately take a photo of this theological declaration. I can struggle until my last reserves of strength run out and play my cards to the bitter end, but in the end it is the Almighty who speaks the final word on my journey. My happiness in life is not dependent on the horsepower of my car, not on the size of my bank account and certainly not on my muscle mass at the gym. When we trust in God, He is our goal and we are accountable to Him. It is a power far above us that gives our existence meaning and fulfillment. /KDJ

The saying means: Only God knows my destiny (my goal).
