When suddenly six radio stations stop functioning

Chris and Christian – our emergency task-force

A phone call from Puno: “We cannot hear your programme anymore.”  Within minutes we get the same bad news from Chincheros, Andahuaylas, Abancay, Puerto Maldonado and Echarate.  For a radio channel that broadcasts throughout the deep south of Peru this spells disaster.

Physician Christian Oswald checks our devices in the Media Centre.  He exchanges one component.  But still our aerial towers get no signal from the satellite.  Just after 7a.m. (Canberra Time) our Australian satellite-technician Chris Welch joins the analysis team.  Our uplink to space shows an error.  As swiftly as possible everything is tried and programmed and soon the team discovers where the problem lies!

6:43 (Peruvian Time) Doris Manco, head of our Media Centre sends the liberating WhatsApp: “All our radio stations are now broadcasting our programme again!”  We breathe a huge sigh of relief and say a prayer of thanks to God.

Chris Welch from “Canberra Diospi Suyana support department” in Australia.
