In the last few days the hospital’s personnel have made a detailed revision of their departments. As was expected, there are still many necessary pieces of equipment missing.
Last Thursday, Stefan Höfer and Dr. John visited close to 20 Medical Supply Companies in the centre of Lima. The wide variety of goods available is impressive. The products come from Europe, the USA and the vast majority are made in Pakistan and Taiwan. So the prices had to be compared and the differing offers from the variety of stores looked at.
Then today, the “shopping cart” was filled!
On one memorable occasion a company offered a generous 35% discount off the asking price – of course, they didn’t mention that the original price quoted already had a 200%+ mark up! Fortunately, “lies have short legs”.
