Healing for a fearful patient
Many people can sympathise with Juana T’s feelings about fear! Fear of hospitals, of a diagnosis…. But unfortunately most illnesses do not go away by themselves. Due to strong vaginal bleeding Juana was almost completely exhausted. She lives with her family in Puno, a city at 4,000m altitude in the lofty heights of the Andes. Due to her advanced anaemia (a mere 2.5gr% – 12-16 is normal) she was very often breathless. Her blood was lacking the oxygen carriers. Heart failure was only a matter of time.
A couple of days ago Juana and her husband embarked on the 15 hour journey to Curahuasi. Despite the patient’s poor health she braved the exertions of the bus journey, yet arrived at the hospital in a wheelchair and looking as white as a sheet.
Gynaecologist Dr Jens Haßfeld immediately started examining her. He found a myoma the size of a child’s head that had slipped into the vagina.
During the vaginal operation the uterus and the tumour knots were removed. Three days later just before the patient left the Hospital Diospi Suyana her Hb-value was 7.5gr%.
A happy end to a tale of woe that had lasted three years. Now Juana need no longer be afraid and she can breathe freely again.
