From One Moment to the Next

 Unfall 1

On the Pennsylvania Interstate

The day’s work:  A radio interview in the morning, a meeting with the South American Mission Association in Ambridge, and 525 miles on the highway.  Somewhere in Pennsylvania I am having trouble going further.  Several cars are overturned and some of them are charred.  The rotors of the rescue helicopter are ready.  About 10 ambulances and police cars are all flashing their lights on the side of the road.  Fairly quickly I’m able to pass without too much delay.  Everything was happening on the other side.

An excerpt from the second book about Diospi Suyana (planned release date of autumn 2015): “At midnight we both had made our decision.  Tina would fly with Florian from Cusco to Lima and then to Quito, Ecuador.  We had fortunately reached the missionary Dr. Wolff on his cell phone and he assured us that the antibodies we needed would be in a hospital in the capital.  In a quick in and out mission, Tina and Florian had managed to fly the 1200 miles to Quito and back in less than 24 hours.  The mission doctor Eckhart Wolff had administered the antibody professionally with small stitches to the wound on his hand.

My stay in Mexico was over and I waited in Miami on my connecting flight to Frankfurt.  Through Skype I was able to talk to Tina.  “Has there been analysis of the dog brain?” I exclaimed uneasily into the speaker of my laptop.  My wife’s response pushed me forward in the chair: “Yes, it is rabies,” I heard Tina say in a sad voice.  “We received the information from an employee of the health center in Abancay; the suspicions have been confirmed!”

We see every day the greatest sufferings on the television and yet we go to bed halfway relaxed because fortunately the misery often does not concern us.  But woe, woe, the cancer, the plane crash or the tragic pileup on the highway that takes a wife, a son, or a daughter.  Then, within a seconds time, they understand why Christians put their hope in God.  A God that will wipe away all our tears in a place the Bible calls heaven!”
