A role model without knowing it
My lecture in the Protestant parish of Laaken near Wuppertal is over and we are sitting together comfortably with cookies and coffee. “Dr. John, I have often pondered what my mission might be to help others,” remarks an attractive lady of just 87. “But somehow I haven’t received a clear mission from God!” “May I ask what you did in your retirement?” I can’t shake off the suspicion that my dear conversation partner is digging a little deep.
.
“Well, I was involved with the food bank for 18 years. My husband and I drove around the various stations in the social mobile!” Wow, I am deeply impressed.
.
“When we sit together at the table of brotherhood in heaven, Jesus will probably say to you: ‘Whatever you did for one of my brothers in need, you did for me!” Ursula Winkelmann laughs. “How interesting,” she replies, “I asked our pastor to preach on this exact passage from the Bible at my funeral!”
.
In my thoughts, I take my hat off to Ursula. She is a modern role model through and through. “She wanted to receive a commission from God and carried out the will of Christ like no other for almost two decades.
.
“We had a really warm relationship with the homeless back then,” Ursula continues. “One of them even looked for my husband’s grave in the cemetery!” My eyes widen. “You’re a real stunner,” I remark and say a heartfelt goodbye.
The highway is waiting. How good it is that there are people like Ursula Winkelmann/KDJ
