Among Friends in Colombia

Pastor unter Afrikanern

What brings Christian Bigalke and his family to a neighboring country?

Due to a visa issue, the Bigalke family had to leave Peru for a short time, so the director of the Diospi Suyana School seized the opportunity to visit pastor Carlos Rivera Gonzales in Colombia.  Twelve years ago, the two men met for the first time in southern Spain.  At that time, Carlos Rivera (second from left in above picture) cared for illegal immigrants, whose labor is used in Europe, but are otherwise excluded from society.

In a small church, Christian Bigalke presented the history of Diospi Suyana.  The audience listened attentively and came to the unanimous conclusion that they had never before heard anything like this.  The congregation blessed the family Bigalke for their service in Peru.

The current situation for Christians in Columbia is troubling.  The Catholic Church reported 36 bishops and priests were murdered in the last few years and 57 church buildings were destroyed.  Of the 1.4 million evangelical Christians in Colombia, many are suffering persecution.  Recently, 133 pastors were killed.  The perpetrators of these crimes are usually drug cartels and guerrilla groups..
