Two memorable meetings in Lima

World-changers

One phone-call during a car journey to Cusco and a 90-minute meeting was arranged with the head of ACED.  For the past 32 years this Christian organisation has initiated and supported many good projects for the poor in Peru.  Now the ladies who never get tired are considering founding a missionary hospital in the Capital Lima.  After my presentation yesterday in their office I have a high regard for this Peruvians.  (S)He who spends three decades fighting for a good idea really has stamina.

Shortly after 11 o’clock the Head of the departmental heads of the Health Ministry hears Diospi Suyana’s story.  We then discover that we had met each other 13 years ago:  in 2008 Dr Julio Castro was the Dean of all of Peru’s doctors.  The high-ranking official defines himself as a representative of the political left; I describe myself as a convinced Christian.  It is amazing how many things we have in common when it comes to social issues.

“Since our first meeting I have kept track of how Diospi Suyana developed,” remarked Dr Castro.  “As soon as the possibility arises I will gladly pay you a visit bringing the minister with me!”
