Twenty years ago on the construction site

We had no idea what to expect

Earthworks day after day, week after week. Around 350,000 cubic meters were moved. We often saw no progress for a long time. We always had to transfer a sum of around USD 100,000 to the construction company Constructec at the end of each month. We never asked for money, neither in our information letters nor in our public talks. We told a story of faith and prayed at night for God’s miracles.

If we had known how difficult and rocky the road would be, we might have given up. But we actually felt an inner certainty that God would turn everything around in the end. Our consulting partner was civil engineer Udo Klemenz. He and his wife Barbara had arrived in Peru with the Johns on August 3, 2005.

If God hadn’t held his hand over us a thousand times, everything would have failed utterly. But the Most High did not let us down. The result was one of the most modern mission hospitals in the world with the best prices for the poorest. Ten heads of state or first ladies heard the story personally from the mouths of the missionary doctors. And countless millions watched the thriller in 122 TV reports. The question was always: is this still faith in God or is it madness? /KDJ

An artificial plateau with terraces was created.
An almost unimaginable amount of manual work on walls that were several hundred meters long
A kind of material sieve. The water cylinders can be seen at the back.
An empty platform. Excavation work was carried out on the slope.
