The story of a young girl…

… is multi-faceted

Weekend in the evening.  The patients in their rooms will soon turn off their lights and go to sleep.  From the end of a long corridor I zoom into the following scene.  A 13-year-old girl is pushed over the lock into the operating theatre wing.  Her mother was not able to accompany her, since at the entrance she tested positive for Corona.

The surgical intervention finds two diagnoses: a sceptic appendix and a bloody ovarian cyst.

The Quechua-family had travelled from Andahuaylas – a 5 hour journey.  In the city of Andahuaylas as well as in Abancay, the regional capital, there are hospitals.  Why did the family not look for help there?  The three Quechuas voted with their feet or put more precisely with their car tyres and preferred to knock on the door of the Hospital Diospi Suyana.

Since December 2019, i.e. since 1.5 years the girl has not set foot in a school.  She is a victim of the pandemic.  Since she has neither a mobile nor a tablet, so school via zoom was no option.  However, her school would have had to be able to provide online teaching.

On the Covid-stations one storey higher the number of patients has increased to 11.
