The Resurrection Church of St. Petersburg

No church with this name can be beautiful enough

It was a close run thing that I knew for certain.  Publishing director Pavel Damjan and his daughter picked me up from the airport.  We spent four hours talking in Pavel’s office about the publication of the Russian version of “I have seen God” after which they drove me back to my hotel.  Despite the world-famous Resurrection Church being only a 30 minute walk away I did not manage a flying visit to the world heritage site.  It is a must, but I simply had to get some sleep, since my alarm was set for just after 3a.m. the next morning.

It was here that Czar Alexander II was assassinated on 13th March 1881.  In his honour his son ordered the “Church of the Resurrection of Christ” be built.  He was merely a boy when the explosive device transported his father to the afterlife.

Christ’s resurrection is a Christian’s greatest hope.  It is the final answer to our question of the meaning of life and the best comfort when facing death.  Only if Christ has conquered death for us is eternal life a reality; otherwise it is not. /KDJ
