A long “tale of woe” comes to an end
Twenty years ago, the John family settled in the Andean village of Curahuasi. The young mayor Julio Cesar Luna had placed some old computers in the city hall. Those who wanted could try to download their emails there. Dr. Martina John remembers: “Sometimes we sat in front of the screen for ten minutes. The speed was so slow that you just gave up trying and went home without checking your mails!”
For years, the topic of “Internet” has preoccupied the operations of the hospital, the school and our media center. Since yesterday we can – it seems – tick off this problem. The secret is called: “Starlink” by Elon Musk. After a month of testing, we will probably connect all branches of work to the “space internet” in the long term.
The evolution to high-speed data traffic did not happen overnight in Curahuasi; it took two decades. Sometimes it takes a lot of patience.
We can live with this result.
