When a normal car becomes a tricycle
The four-wheel drive car of our finance director Louis Fischer had to go to the workshop in Cusco. The Toyota is no longer brand new and the suspension of the vehicle should be renewed. The order was completed promptly. Last Saturday around 6 p.m. as darkness fell, Louis, accompanied by nurse Amelie and John Freese, a visitor from the U.S., set out for Curahuasi.
After half an hour of driving, strange noises suddenly sounded. At full speed, the Toyota tipped to the front left. An eerie scratching sound. Metal on asphalt. The three occupants held their breath. Almost unreal moments of a few seconds passed. Then it became quiet. The car had neither overturned nor skidded.
Louis and John mounted the spare wheel with some difficulty. Then they set out to find the missing part. It was found on the opposite side in the ditch not 100 meters away.
The workshop in Cusco had actually failed to tighten the screws on this side after the repair. This incident could have been fatal. “Luck in disguise,” says the proverb. “Preservation in the greatest need,” Christians believe. /KDJ
