Stayed young with a heart that continues to burn

In Elsenburg’s YMCA leisure home

According to a saying we are as old as we feel.  Bob Dylan commented in an interview that he would continue composing as long as the fire burns in his heart.  In May the singer and songwriter turned 80.  It is a sign of many of Diospi Suyana’s friends that they support our work in Peru with a contagious enthusiasm.

Recently Wolfgang and Christine Wilke took part in a YMCA – Young Men’s Christian Association – retreat event.  During the conference it was Mr Wilke’s 83rd birthday and to mark the occasion he gave a presentation about the “Wonder in the Andes”.  (S)He who burns for something is the ideal fire raiser.  The spark ignited the hearts of his audience and they spontaneously took up a collection for Diospi Suyana.

Mr and Mrs Wilke‘s explanatory letter.

His wife is made from the same tinder – as regards Diospi Suyana – easily burnable.  For her birthday back in 2014 she rallied round for Diospi Suyana.  She called the result she raised a meagre offering, a totally wrong characterisation, since it was a large sum for a good cause.

It is important to keep one’s enthusiasm throughout one’s whole life.  Christine Wilke wrote last year: “We are always very pleased when we receive your current newsletter.  It is always so informative and laid out so interestingly that we read it immediately and then pass it on…!”

We can burn for a party, invest everything we have for our hobby, be deeply moved by a classical concert and even march in demonstrations for own convictions.

At Diospi Suyana it is not about a fascinating story, but about the mastermind who has written it: God.  The result for those in need in Southern Peru touches everyone.  ARTE’s TV-programme from Christmas 2020 called Diospi Suyana “a unique project!”. /KDJ
