And that had to be saved
Donna Lili is 49 years old and lives in the province of “La Convención” in the state of Cusco. In 2023, she noticed a deterioration in her vision on both sides. It was a case of cataract (clouding of the lens). The patient underwent surgery on the left side at another center. Unfortunately, a severe infection set in, which not only destroyed her vision (left side), but also her trust in the doctors.
The single mother keeps her head above water with odd jobs. Sometimes she regulates traffic at construction sites for the local council. Or she clears the mountain roads after landslides. When she could only see her hand in front of her eye, she traveled the long distance to the Diospi Suyana Hospital. She had heard many good things about the “hospital of faith” from various sources. But of course she knocked on our door with an anxious heart. What if a serious infection were to occur at the missionary hospital too, then she would be de facto blind after the operation.
In the meantime, she has come through the cataract operation by Dr. Ursula Buck well and her vision on the right has completely returned to normal. She can continue to live independently, go about her work normally and look after her children. We thank God that we at the eye clinic can help such desperate patients as Señora Lili.
