Feelings of excruciating pain and indescribable joy united in one person

Can God comfort her?

Alejandrina Ovalle Kcacha recently experienced how brutal, but also how wonderful life can be.  The 27 year old living in the mountain village of Ccoccua was admitted an as emergency case at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning.   The amnionic sac broke ages ago and her contractions had started.  The pain and anguish she endured while travelling over bumpy mountain tracks to the hospital is unimaginable.  But at one minute to seven that evening her little Antonio was born.

His mother named him after her deceased husband, who suffocated four months ago in a 30m deep well while at work.  Her first child will be a living memory and a daily reminder of the love of her life.

Midwife Jitssa Boza and assistant doctor Dr Alberto Ramirez helped with Antonio’s birth.  But the long talks with midwife Mariela (not on the photo) were just as, if not more, important: she tried to comfort the young widow and mother.  In the light of human tragedy we can only look forward to the place where one day God will wipe away every tear.
