Out in Public

Slider Bibelmarsch

Why?

September is a month of special festivities. However, that is really nothing extraordinary, because parties in Latin America are about as common as the air we breath.  The celebration Sunday morning, however, was somewhat of a different nature.  Many Christians from different churches gathered for a Bible march, for it is said that the “Book of Books” arrived to Peru in the month of September.

In the central square they raised the Peruvian flag in the presence of a government representative.  Hector Munoz, a pastor from Chile, gave a short sermon.  He said that the Bible lights our way and gives the necessary guidance and encouragement during our time here on earth.  After the speech, the music band of Diospi Suyana invited the audience to sing together.

Why don’t we stay at home? We Christians can believe what we want, but privately.  Do we really need to go through the streets of Curahuasi with posters and banners?

First, it is a fundamental right of a democratic society to voice ones opinion in public.  Trade unions, environmentalists, community groups, and even us as Christians are able to assemble together to demonstrate our beliefs.

Second, the public testimony corresponds to our inner belief and concern.  We have found liberation and fulfillment in this faith and we want to pass this good news on to others.

Many of the Quechuas who participated in the Bible march on Sunday were formerly alcoholics and came from a dysfunctional family. Faith in Jesus Christ has changed them completely.  Stagnation, melancholy, and despair; that was yesterday.  Today they live with joy and confidence.

If you doubt that faith brings such a positive change, then visit us in Curahuasi. Youcan interview a hundred Quechuas if you wish. We will certainly try to help you with all necessary coordination.
