Quechuapi Rimayta Yachasunchis

For the last few weeks, Diospi Suyana staff members have been spending their Saturdays trying to learn Quechua. The class started out with 21 participants. By the time the first exam came around, there were 10 left. Is the language too much of a challenge?

Each class starts with a song sang in Quechua. Dr. Heike Lindacher reports: During our first class, we pretty much only spoke Quechua – we could barely keep up. Slowly, we are getting sense of the structure of the language, which neverthelss remains quite foreign to us. And, every Saturday, we get homework assignments."
