Peru is an earthquake-prone region. Small tremors can be felt and measured regularly and devastating earthquakes hit the pacific coast every century.
As part of a national excercise (Simulacro), 15 children from the schools nearby were committed to the missionary hospital. Such exercises can be amusing as long as it is not a real emergency after a real earthquake with tumbling walls.
The hospital walls have vertical and horizontal steel beams for support but hopefully they will never be seismically tested.
