After an absence of 36 years Peru has qualified for the World Cup Finals

A 2:0 victory against New Zealand sealed the deal

For the first time since 1982 Peru will compete in the World Cup Finals.  After a first-leg 0:0 draw in New Zealand the national team won 2:0 on home soil.  The team’s success could also be seen in the FIFA World-rankings: Peru just makes it into the top ten teams of the world, thus it is clear that things appear to be working well on the pitch.

After so much joy Peru’s President declared that yesterday (Thursday) to be a bank holiday.  Also in Curahuasi the spectators watching the match on the TV cheered after the winning goals.  On 1st December the groups for the World Cup in Russia will be decided by lot.

Should Peru win the competition next summer, all Peruvians would probably be given a whole week of national holiday.
