The country is worth a visit
There are good reasons why Peru is so attractive to its visitors. Here is a brief overview in ABC order.
.
A = Ausflüge und Anden/ Excursions and the Andes: The hiking routes through the Peruvian Andes are inexhaustible. The view from the mountains or towards the mountains often deserves to be described as breathtaking. Hikes are safe and robberies are rare.
.
B = Bodenschätze/Mineral resources: Peru is a mining Eldorado. This industry brings the country the necessary income.
.
C = Charm: Peruvians not only know how to behave, they also have a homely friendliness. Small talk is one of their great strengths.
.
D = Dankbarkeit/Gratitude: After years of observation, we would describe our patients as more grateful than their European counterparts. However, this could also be due to characteristics that we have made the basis of our service: Faith, friendliness, affordable prices and good results.
.
E = Essen/Food: Peruvian cuisine enjoys the very best reputation. It reaches the level of the French chefs. The specialties are varied, delicious and healthy.
.
F = Flexible: Europeans cannot compete with the Peruvians when it comes to flexibility. If an attempt goes wrong – e.g. starting a business – they try something completely different.
.
G = Hospitality: Invitations to a hearty dinner are often extended. Even the “poor” don’t let themselves get carried away and serve up a hearty meal.
.
H = Household functions: Most people don’t have washing machines or dishwashers, but the work is done. Many people help out in the extended family, but usually only the women. I = Indigenous peoples: There are 55 different ethnic groups in Peru. The diversity of languages, cultures and customs is immense.
.
J = Jugglers: If you stop at a red light, you will be amazed at the acrobatic feats. Many of these artists give a performance with hoops and balls that is ripe for television. This is how young Peruvians in particular earn their living.
.
K = Kartoffel/Potato: 3000 endemic potato varieties grow in Peru. The potato has been instrumental in helping to get famines under control in Europe.
.
L = Landscape: With the coast, the mountains and the rainforest, Peru has pretty much everything a tourist could wish for. Over 40 six-thousand-metre peaks covered in ice and snow are literally “lonely peaks”.
.
M = Meinungsfreiheit/freedom of expression: While in the western world “political correctness” is increasingly restricting free speech, in Peru everyone is allowed to say what they think. No one has a heart attack just because a supposedly wrong word was used in a discussion.
.
N = Nature. Peru is one of the countries with the greatest abundance of birds. The Peruvian highlands are also home to millions of alpacas, llamas and vicuñas.
.
O = Openness to God: Over 95% of Peruvians are convinced that God exists. There is a willingness to talk about faith in God across all classes.
.
P = Party: If you don’t know how to celebrate a proper “fiesta”, you can learn how to do so in Peru. Cheerfulness is part of it – unfortunately often with alcohol.
.
Q = Quintas: In Peru, attractive estates can be found everywhere in rural areas. They are used for agriculture or recreation. Their architecture usually has a Spanish touch.
.
R = Redegewandtheit/Eloquence: You have to experience it to believe it. Peruvians can speak off the cuff for half an hour. The rhetoric is impressive. But you shouldn’t put every word on the gold scale.
.
S = Spontaneity: In the morning, you never really know what the day will bring. It’s not so bad. Peruvians make the best of the circumstances.
.
T = Tourism: Folklore, ruins, Inca culture and customs. You can take pictures until the battery is empty.
.
U = Überlebenskünstler/Survivalists: Peruvians don’t give up. They find a way. If they fall, they get up again.
Peruvians see things from a calm distance. What we can’t do today, we might be able to do “mañana” (tomorrow).
The magic word is: slowing down.
.
V = Verkehr/Traffic: There is always room for one more in the buses or on the pick-ups. No one is afraid of being hit: horns are often honked, but rarely in a malicious manner. The use of the horn does not intimidate anyone.
.
W = Weather: The weather in the Andes of Peru is about 150 times better than the weather in Central Europe.
Perhaps that is even an understatement.
.
X = x times: You can visit Peru over and over again and discover something new every time.
.
Y = Yuca: Like the potato, the starchy root tuber is native to Peru. The taste is sweetish. A pleasant culinary change.
.
Z = Zeit/Time: The bottom line is that Peruvians spend more time with their extended families. Normally – if relationships are healthy – one helps the other.
