Over 3000 present at the first cut of the spade

In radiant sunshine, the population of Curahuasi enthusiastically celebrated the beginning of construction. The three hour program featured traditional Indian folklore and music alongside the speeches. The German Ambassador, Dr. Roland Kliesow, and the Director of the National Evangelical Council of Churches, Dr. Victor Arroyo, had traveled there from Lima especially for the occasion.

Representatives of the regional Government, the city administration and the churches stressed the far-reaching significance of the planned missionary hospital for the whole of southern Peru. It became clear that the mountain Indians have great expectations of the project – the beginning of construction was greeted with hope and gratitude. The speeches were repeatedly interrupted by spontaneous applause. A sea of Peruvian and German flags highlighted the significance of the project as a symbol of the partnership between the two countries.
