One of the many victims of the winter storm “Fern”

At Dallas airport at night

Around 10 p.m. on Sunday evening, my little world was still in order. But the email from Lufthansa at 10:15 pm ruined all my best travel plans. My direct flight to Dallas joined the long list of thousands of flights that were canceled without a sound.

But somehow, in the morning, we made it across the Atlantic – to Houston. However, there were problems with the connecting flights again. Thankfully, I was booked onto a United Airlines flight to Dallas at around 8 p.m. and I was finally where I wanted to be.

Of course, the rental car companies had long since closed and so I sat and slept in the largest hotel in the USA that night – in one of the countless waiting rooms at the international hub of DFW.

Well, if the snowstorm affects half of the US population, it will also affect a German-Peruvian traveling. No drama. The overnight stay at the airport is uncomfortable but unbeatably cheap. And the reason for my detour to Texas is a good one anyway. As things stand, an international publisher will be publishing the fourth book “An Experiment with God” in Spanish and English. So, despite all the adversities, I’m delighted about the new opportunity in the land of opportunity, the USA. /KDJ
