Oebele and Debora De Haan Return To Europe

It all started in August of 2009. Oebele De Haan and his then fiancee Debora Sauer were working on the hospital ship Mercy Ship, which was stationed on the coast of Benin in West Africa. When the phone rang on board, it was Dr. John calling for Oebele de Haan. The result of that conversation: the newly wed De Haans travel to Curahuasi six months later.

As head of the hospital workshop, Oebele de Haan has influenced and contributed to the hospital construction in an unforgetable manner. He installed second floor emergency exits and a steel staircase to the hospital archive, he welded various parts of the roof and built a sound wall around the emergency generator. And, he could fix the Unimog truck like no one else.

His wife Debora was one of the pillars of the dental clinic, before she transfered to the OR, where she soon held a key position.

Understandably, we are extremely sad that the two are leaving. But there is hope…maybe the two will return to Curahuasi in two years. And if they don’t come back voluntarily, we will organize the first Diospi Suyana abduction. If all staffers are willing to participate, we will surely succeed.

May God bless Oebele and Debby’s next phase of life.
