Non-stop to Lima

Searching for staff and materials

At 4:10a.m. administrative director Steven de Jager and Dr John drove out of Curahuasi.  After exactly 14 hours (without a break), having passed 11 police and military checkpoints and driven 930km they reached the capital Lima.  The military turned a blind eye when they saw the missionary doctor’s blue car sneaking through Lima’s empty roads, 10 minutes after the curfew had started. The passes signed by a high-ranking police officer and a governor turned out to be extremely useful.

One could have enjoyed the long journey through the country’s heartland, if one were not driven by merciless time-pressure.

By Maundy Thursday de Jager and John will be working flat out for Diospi Suyana.  By then we hope to have improved the equipment of our intensive care stations and found two new members of staff.  Quite a challenge!

This morning the official figures state that 1,323 people in Peru have contracted Corona.  We do not have much time left before the avalanche of sick people will roll towards the hospitals.

Driving through Ayacucho State.  At an altitude of 4,200m we have reached the snow line and can see alpaca herds on the right.
An impressive rock formation looking out to the left-hand side.
