No easy fate

But through Dr Then it becomes more bearable

To be sure the young girl Maria* (14) does not have an easy life.  Because of a probable birth-trauma she suffers from severe epilepsy, which in her case causes extensive spasticity in her four limbs.  Completing the long journey from Andahuaylas to the Hospital Diospi Suyana was on the one hand very trying for her, but on the other she gladly let her mother bring her.  Here the girl receives encouragement and the correct medication.

Paediatrician Dr Simon Then’s friendly smile mysteriously penetrates through the mask he is wearing.  It is soothing and comforting for both children and parents when a doctor listens patiently and speaks encouraging words. (*Name changed; Picture taken by Susi Rottler).
