Music of the future: a FM-frequency in the heart of Ayacucho

0.2 mio people live in the Capital Ayacucho

The city of Ayacucho lies in the State of the same name ten hours drive by car from Curahuasi.  This Departamento is part of Peru’s poorhouse.  Almost all inhabitants are Quechuas, i.e. descendants of the Incas.  The Incas under Pachacutek established an important administrative centre in this part of Peru.  But long before the Incas the capital of the Wari-Empire was located here.  Without a doubt this area is rich in history.  In the 20th century the philosophy professor Abimael Guzman founded the terror movement Sendero Luminoso (the Shining Way) in Ayacucho.  According to the Truth Commission 69,000 people died in the skirmishes between Sendero and Government troops.  A trauma that will shape Peru’s history for a while yet.

So far 6,000 patients living in Ayacucho have travelled to the Missionary Hospital Diospi Suyana.  Perhaps that number will increase greatly in the future!

Would it not be a wonderful goal to be able to build one of Diospi Suyana’s aerial towers overlooking this quickly-growing city!?  From this hill one could reach almost 0.25mio people with our Media Centre’s high-quality programme.  It is well-worth pondering this possibility.  With God’s blessing everything is possible. /KDJ

The village of Vilcashuaman lies two hours from Ayacucho. It was here that Inca Pachakutek founded a large administrative centre.
