Over 300 cases in the Andean country
In Latin America, Peru has climbed to 1st place with 313 confirmed cases. The trend is still upward. According to WHO figures, well over 90 percent of those affected are homosexual men. The predominant route of transmission is through close skin contact and exchange of body fluids e.g. semen. According to the experts, the viral infection is clearly transmitted through sex, so the urgent recommendation of the World Health Organization in this risk group is to significantly reduce the number of sexual partners.
