Martín Quispe is ready for Christmas

With a warm heart and a warm right foot

The Quechua lives with his family in the mountains of the federal state of Puno. Just a few days ago, Martín Quispe was still able to work hard in the fields. But suddenly his right foot turned ice cold and every single step caused severe pain in his right calf.

His relatives took him to the Diospi Suyana Hospital in Curahuasi. The journey took over ten hours. Vascular surgeon Dr. Thomas Tielmann immediately arranged the necessary diagnostic measures. An image of the vessels showed a partial occlusion of the right iliac artery due to a floating blood clot. And the right calf artery was even completely blocked by a second clot.

Under the direction of Dr. Tielmann, a team of surgeons performed an emergency operation. Both clots were successfully removed. The right foot is now well supplied with blood again and warm. All pulses are palpable. The farmer has every reason to be happy for Christmas 2024. His foot remains intact and he can continue to do his job.
