Living In Dependency

For the past weeks, we here at Diospi Suyana were somewhat worried when thinking about January 2012. And not without a reason. Without an anesthesiologist, our surgery department would not be able to operate.

On December 14, at a service at the Lutheran Church in Freiberg, Germany, the service attendees and pastor Gundula Rudloff prayed for an anesthesiologist to join Diospi Suyana for the month of January.

Around Christmas time, I stepped up my efforts and called up 27 anesthesiologist whom had expressed an interest in an assignment abroad. Unfortunately, none of them was able to travel to Peru at such short notice. Work schedules, including days off, were already in place and agreed upon with colleagues.

On January 3, I got a call from Dr. Haßfeld. The alarming news from Peru: As of Monday, January 9, Diospi Suyana would be without an anesthesiologist.

It was dusk, when Dr. Kuraguntla arrived at the hospital last night. The anesthesiologist from the US will be in charge of anesthesia at the hospital until February 11. As a short-term missionary he will volunteer his time.

Maybe you can agree with me in saying that this is a true answer to prayer. But which anesthesiologist will help us of February 12? Only God knows the answer and we remain depending on him. /KDJ
