Lima: One Must Not Despair

For years, humanitarian aid organizations have been groaned when thinking about the bureaucratic obstacles encountered at the Lima customs.

Next month, Diospi Suyana will bring a complete set of hospital equipment to Lima/Calla via the sea route.

The secret of successfully importing goods definitely depends on the variety of contacts. Two weeks ago Dr John spoke to the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation for a few hours; last week more meetings with the Department of Health. And on Monday, he introduced the non-profit project to three high-ranking customs officers.

Today we received the first piece of good news: The director of Ransa (Photo 1) promised to reduce future port warehouse charges for Diospi Suyana by 50%.

Photo 2: A member of the Health Department takes Dr John through the options of getting goods through customs. The overview chart would be frightening to any lay person.
