Tonight Dr Jens Hassfeld, Dr Birgit Bardy and Dr Klaus John will travel 10 hours to the south to Lake Titicaca. The purpose of the trip is not to visit the famous Sun Island or tour the Uros Islands where the Aymara people live on floating, man-made islands. Instead, they plan to meet with the Rector of the University of Puno and his staff.
With the exception of Dr John and his wife, all the hospital’s doctors are still in need of obtaining their Peruvian medical licenses. The University of Puno has expressed an interest in sending their medical students to do practical placements in Hospital Diospi Suyana. Hopefully an agreement can be reached before long.
