On which side do we stand?
41% of Germans feel that the Jews speak too much about the Holocaust. 28% of them claim that Jews wield too much economic power, 26% feel that Jews have too much power in world politics.
The German populus can claim the tragic superlative that it has systematically annihilated most people of the Jewish Faith, namely 6 million men, women and children. 75 years later this crime that blows anyone’s imagination to smithereens is played down, relativized or even justified in many circles. 22% think that the Jews were hated because of their behaviour.
More than 41% of German 14-year-old pupils do not even know what Auschwitz means or what happened there.
Let us have the Stars of David ready at home. Perhaps we will need them in the near future to show solidarity to a nation that has blessed humanity with 20% of the Noble Prizes and thereby with countless scientific achievements.
We Christians know that Jesus’ mother was Jewish. Peter and Paul who brought Christianity to Europe were Jews and David, who wrote, among others, Psalm 23 (The Lord is my shepherd) prayed to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
50 years ago as a young boy I asked the grown-ups why they had remained silent? Perhaps our generation will soon face an acid test. Therefore let us sew the band with the yellow star on it. /KDJ
