In distress and yet upright

Words out of the book of books are gaining importance

Most times the sky over Lima shows itself from an unfriendly side. You can describe it properly with the words “grey”, “gloomy” and “sad”. Sometimes the weather brightens up in the afternoon and the observer feels captivated immediately. Those short minutes before the sunset are like a glimmer of hope, a hint for a better reality beyond the clouds.

In these days I feel reminded of the picture that I took in Lima some time ago. Diospi Suyana is by far something simple. The work never ends and the pressure increases year by year. Despite all the positive headlines in the media we do have enemies and enviers. Every thankful patient who goes home after a visit at Diospi Suyana accuses the health system of being insufficient.

Employees and missionaries become sick and bad news of all sorts are suddenly laying on the desk. The official channels are time consuming and endlessly grinding. Promises are broken and some of the neglecting bureaucrats are often aggressive.

But if it is Gods desire, the clouds open up. The magnificence of a higher power is surrounding the people, who trust in him. The old apostle Paul put this phenomenon into words 2000 years ago. Since that transcription you can’t erase those words from the world literature.

“The difficulties press hard from all sides and yet we are not overwhelmed by them. Often we are perplexed, but never desperate. We are persecuted by humans, but in God we take refuge. We are beaten down, but we won’t die. Day by day we experience a piece of dying the way Jesus suffered it. So a piece of life of the risen Jesus will be visible in us!”(from a letter to Christians in the town of Korinth)/KDJ
