Global Clubfoot Initiative organise a workshop at the Diospi Suyana

With English physiotherapists Elisabeth Harvey-Bryant and Graciela Laura Fowler

Our physiotherapist Vikki de Jager (above right) sent an invitation to England and shortly afterwards two Ponseti-Concept specialists embarked on their journey to Peru.  This week a clubfoot workshop is taking place at the Hospital Diospi Suyana.  It is the first time ever that such a workshop is taking place in the Spanish-speaking world.  The individual seminars are broadcast live via video-connection to Cusco.

The workshop participants came from the fields of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, traumatology, paediatrics, radiology, nursing and from the Orthopaedic Workshop.  The speakers from Great Britain who raised all the required funds for the materials themselves said: “It is so wonderful to be able to contribute something to Diospi Suyana’s history!”

We most cordially thank the ladies from the United Kingdom for this exquisite training session.  We received many positive comments also to the practical exercises.

In the summer 2020 Wheatly (an English paediatrician) and his wife Zoe (a physiotherapist) O’Neill and their family will leave Sheffield and head for Peru.  They are currently making preparations for their “personal Brexit”.  We hope and pray that our contacts to Great Britain will continue to grow closer over the next few years, irrespective what happens with Brexit. /KDJ
