The hospital Diospi Suyana’s quick emergency force

The months from December to February are a yearly challenge for the missionary hospital. Due to the Southern Hemisphere’s summer holidays the patient queues swell. Currently four old acquaintances are helping out at Diospi Suyana helping us to keep the number of waiting patients as low as possible.

Dr Reinhard Kühn (see above) is on his ninth stint working as a general surgeon at the missionary hospital. Trainee doctor Katharina Bosch learns several tricks that have stood the test of time from the old hands. Dr Oliver Engelhard (see below) remembers what the hospital was like in its early days. From 2007-2011 he performed valuable development work as a specialist for internal medicine. He flies back to Peru again and again in order to help when a staff shortage looms.

Anaesthetist Dr Jose Rojas, hailing from Northern Peru, has been to Curahuasi so often that he has stopped counting the number of times. Nurse Isabelle Hach is standing next to him. Over the past few months she has quickly learnt the ropes of the anaesthetist department.

Dr Raul Cañadas has arrived from Quito, Ecuador. It is the second time that the specialist for internal medicine is working for the missionary hospital on a voluntary basis. It seems that emergency situations bring out our friends’ best qualities. We are thankful for their selfless service, for, as we all know, a friend in need is a friend indeed.

Dr Oliver Engelhard loves to help out at the Hospital Diospi Suyana. The only condition is that his family give him the go-ahead.
Dr Jose Rojas, hailing from the North-Peruvian city Cajamarca. Isabelle Hach stands next to him.
Dr Raul Cañadas, a 62 year old GP from Ecuador.
