Facing the Challenges …

Dear friends from around the world,

.

Here at Hospital Diospi Suyana we often find ourselves with more patients at the door than we can treat in one day. Money we have, equipment we have, but the one limiting factor is an acute shortage of doctors on staff.

How do we cope with this situation? An easy solution would be just to send home the excess and shrug our shoulders helplessly. Two thousand years ago we read in the Bible about another Physician who was in a similiar situation.

.

The the New Testament there are stories of Jesus healing thousands of people of their physical and spiritual ailments. The the 14th chapter of the book of Matthew we read about one occasion when Jesus was met by 10,000 people on the shores of Lake Galilee when he landed in a boat. The Bible says that Jesus was filled with compassion for the suffering of these people. He did not turn them away, but healed all the sick. Not only that, but when his disciples counselled him to send the crowds home to eat because there was no food with which to feed the hungry masses he told them not to worry so much about what to eat. As we know, Jesus went on to feed everyone with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes.

.

In the same fashion, I wonder what conclusions we here at Hospital Diospi Suyana can draw from this story for our situation. Some thoughts…..

1)  We should not get impatient with the daily onslaught on patients at our door, but rather strive to feel more empathy for their situation. Many of these Quechua people travel for hours on end to get to our hospital, hoping for a cure for their suffering.

.

2)   Even though sometimes we can´t attend all patients, we should also sometimes be expecting the miracles of Jesus for today´s problems.

.

Christian songwriter Keith Green sang 30 years ago. "Just do your best and let Him take care of the rest!"

.

Please pray with us that God will help us to cope with this situation. Please remember me (Klaus) in prayer as I actively promote the hospital and it´s needs throughout Europe. With God´s help things will happen.

What should be the miracle of Jesus? Perhaps he will miraculously sned us some more missionary doctors in the next few months. Perhaps we can finally reach an agreement with Peruvian residency doctors to help us. None of us know what Jesus will do, but as Director of the hospital I put all my hope and faith in him to lead us through this difficult time.
