Given on the campus of Peru’s best university
On Thursday afternoon my wife and I had an appointment with two faculty members of the University Cayetano in Lima. On our way to the main building we suddenly hear a loud “Hello!” and immediately we are deep in conversation with Dr Javier Puma, who eight years ago was one of the first assistant doctors from Cayetano to come to the Hospital Diospi Suyana. To date more than 50 young doctors from this elite university have worked at the missionary hospital.
The words bubble out of the sympathetic Peruvian. “We assistant doctors agree that Diospi Suyana ranks highest of all of Peru’s hospitals when it comes to integrity!” “What do you mean by this?” we enquire. His answer quickly makes clear that he is referring to both the aspect of faith as well as to medical ethics.
“May we make public what you said?” we ask just before we part ways. “Of course! That would be a great honour!” We shake hands and hurry off to our meeting, arriving there just on time. /KDJ
