She has hardly arrived and is already learning Spanish
Last weekend optometrist specialist Dorothea Töws arrived in Peru. She plans to spend three years working at the Hospital Diospi Suyana on a voluntary basis. She writes the following about her travel impressions:
Saturday morning, 8th February. On the big day of my departure I was standing with a slight cold at my airline’s check-in desk. I had to take 5kg of weight out of my suitcase. Finally, they accepted my bag and I bade my companions farewell.
My flight to Panama was enjoyable and quick, mainly due to the delightful lady sitting next to me. After waiting in Panama City for 2.5 hours we continued our journey southwards. The lady at passport control grilled me thoroughly, but still she put the visa in my passport. Further good news was the fact that my suitcase appeared almost immediately on the baggage reclaim belt.
By now it was 11p.m. and so I joined several others taking 40 winks on the terminal’s floor. At 2a.m. I was again standing at a check-in desk. This time my suitcase was 1kg overweight. So I put my bible into my handbag… When I passed the final security check of my journey I breathed a sigh of relief. I am so thankful that God guided me so well.
On our flight to Cusco we flew into the sunrise. Below I marvelled at the view: a carpet of white cloud interrupted only by a few mountain peaks. This breath-taking view made me quickly forget all the exertions of my journey…
