Do you know Helene Fischer’s son?

How nice: he belongs to Diospi Suyana’s circle

Louis Fischer was born on 24th November 1997 in Hannover.  His parents Konstantin and Helene Fischer emigrated shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain from Kazakhstan to Germany.  His family’s diligence and frugality was to make a deep impression in Louis’ life.

The clever boy with strong social skills discovered cooking and baking for himself and enjoyed giving titbits to his classmates.

As his Abitur (the German equivalent of A-Levels) draws near he wonders what he will do after his time at the Humboldt-School in Hannover.

In the autumn of 2015 his mother Helene reads a book about Diospi Suyana.  The title “I have seen God” is an interesting read for long evening hours.  Then the moment comes in the middle of the night that will influence the life of her son for ever.   After she reads the final page she kneels down at her bedside and prays fervently from the bottom of her heart to God: “Please God let my son Louis somehow be part of Diospi Suyana!”

Helene not only hopes and prays, but also acts.  Soon she has discovered that young adults can spend a voluntary social year at Diospi Suyana and speaks with Louis about this interesting opportunity.  Her son who knows South America – he spent two months in Ecuador as an exchange student – is not adverse.

Now things move quickly.  After the official application he leaves for Peru in the summer of 2016.  His year at Diospi Suyana will leave a lasting impression in Louis and has strengthened his personality.  He boldly approaches challenges.  He is a sports teacher to a mere eight classes and regularly bakes bread for the staff in the hospital kitchen.  The months in Curahuasi are in no way a summer-camp for adventurers.  Instead they demand reliable assistance over many months including trustworthiness, a willingness to perform and enthusiasm.

At the end of his stint the young man from Hannover makes an almost prophetic statement: “One has to go in order to be able to come back!”

Louis starts studying international management at the European School of Business in Reutlingen and as a further aptitude test for the higher echelons he moves to Sao Paulo to continue his studies in 2021.  With a mere 24 years he joins „Fundação Getulio Vargas“, one of the most renowned private schools in Latin America.

Flashback: Louis has finished the first semester.  He is sitting at his desk and is working on a sort of life-plan, putting his thoughts on paper.  In doing so his chronogram and the goals he setting himself turn out to be rather specific.  The word “Diospi Suyana” can also be found on the pieces of paper.  Sooner or later he wants to go there, ideally in an important leadership role.

His mobile rings.  Dr Klaus John calls out of the blue via WhatsApp: “Louis, we will soon need a new head of administration.  Would you be interested and do you think you are up to the job?”

Mr Fischer Junior does not take decisions quickly nor lightly.  He contemplates and prays.  Finally he involves his family and informs his church back in Germany.  A communal search starts for the best way for the young man who purposefully has placed his aspirations under God’s will.

The prospect of taking over as head of administration in a large company would for some of us be more than daunting.  Not so for Louis.  He is not afraid, since he knows that we Christians can count on God’s help; and that in every situation.  Having now visited Diospi Suyana five times he feels more and more at ease with this new prospect.  He speaks German and Spanish fluently and can easily hold conversations in English, Portuguese, French and Russian.

“Have you ever personally experienced God’s guiding?”  The question hangs in the air while Louis thinks for a few moments.  “Back in March 2021 I visited a favela (slum) in Rio de Janeiro with two acquaintances.  Suddenly two heavily-armed stood directly in front of us and we were unexpectedly thrust into an extremely precarious situation.  It was a miracle that we got out of that situation unscathed.  The next day I heard from my mother that just at that moment she felt the impulse that I needed prayer support!”

“Louis, have you ever doubted that God exists?”  After a short silence he answers slowly but definitely: “No and I see no alternative to a faith in God!”

Ein Beitrag von Louis im Europolitan, dem ESB Reutlingen Alumni Quarterly
Louis Fischer’s article in the Europolitan, the ESB Reutlingen Alumni Quarterly October 2021.

Oktober 2021.
