The musicians of the Diospi Suyana School witness a classical concert

A thank you for faithful services

The Diospi Suyana School exists for nearly four years and the banda – we would call it a marching band – is the same age. Profesor Jorge Calua conducts the musical group, which plays for all important events in colegio’s calendar. And not to forget: every Friday they play for the raising of the flag on the parade square.

Every week the pupils practise their trumpets, trombones, flutes, xylophones and other instruments in order that the banda’s performances go well. The repertoire is broad: Christian songs from all centuries of the church’s history: e.g. “Holy God we praise thy name”, “What a friend we have in Jesus”, “Ode to Joy” – timeless songs which focus on and honour God.

Last weekend was the time to say THANK YOU. The school management organised a trip to Cusco for 20 primary and secondary pupils, where they witnessed a gala-concert played by the Symphony Orchestra Cusco. The next day the pupils were given a guided tour through the Inca capital. A short and fun night – as often on such school trips – was also part of the programme. The trip was paid for by funds raised from the sales of objets d’art made by the pupils during art-projects and also by a generous donation of a music-lover

We hope and pray that our school musicians will continue to enjoy making music and playing for these regular events and that we will be able to encourage more pupils to start learning an instrument.
