Our ophthalmologist en route to her Peruvian doctor’s degree
It is a rocky road. If someone wants to have his German doctor’s degree approved here in Peru ,he or she has to engage in a long bureaucracy battle with unknown ending. In the last weeks Dr. Buck has submitted all the necessary documents to the Cayetano University. Yesterday the conclusive discussion in front of a commission took place. Dr. Buck traveled the 1000 kilometers to Lima for this meeting. In the evening we received the following e-mail from the capital:
Dear Klaus, I just got back from my excursion to the Cayetano University Heredia. You wanted to know how it went…..
First of all thank you for your prayers! They were truly needed. I was on time at the university. After waiting half an hour the lady at the reception told me that the responsible secretary was on vacation (she had promised to guide me to the appropriate people…). Besides that the committee of the rectors wasn’t meeting today at all. But she was willing to ask, whether it could work tomorrow or any other day…..my heart was sinking!
After an additional waiting period of 30 minutes, which gave me the opportunity for intensive prayer, another lady appeared with a note that it was presumably still possible to meet. She would let me know (my heart started rising a little….).
After 30 more minutes I was guided to the 6th floor. There I had to wait another 15 minutes. Then the rectors invited me to a 20-minute talk, which was relatively harmless…
…the approval of my degree went through, though it was pretty expensive. I can pick up the document in person, earliest at the end of February! First the assembly of professors of the university has to approve the decision of the rectors. Then in the afternoon I walked for two hours from one office to the next to figure out the next steps.
As of now, this is the report from muggy-hot Lima. Lord willing I will return to Curahuasi tomorrow. /Ursula
