The new school-year has started

It is our sixth

After ten weeks of summer holidays the Diospi-Suyana-School has started the new school year.  28 teachers, two school-pastors, a psychologist, a social worker, a speech therapist, a physiotherapist, a secretary, five volunteers, four guards and a sheepdog have started work again.

Over the holidays the teaching staff have worked on teaching plans that will now come into effect.  Envisaged competencies, study plans, methodology and mutual evaluation criteria were re-discussed and laid down.  An aspiring school needs to re-assess these areas regularly.  Furthermore, the entire teaching staff were trained and various extracurricular activities have been planned for the new school year.

Last Friday the long awaited day came: pupils from the kindergarten and the primary and secondary schools were visibly delighted that their long holidays had finally come to an end and they could start learning again.  Our sixth school year was officially opened by an appeal from the flag and a church service in the sports hall.  We have calculated that our paedagogues will give 17,890 lessons to 16 learning groups.

This year we are glad to finally welcome a sports teacher and a teacher for language (Comunicación) to our team of teachers.  Furthermore we are delighted about the German support we have: Sonja Kessler teaches maths and religion, Jonathan Rosenkranz social sciences.  Currently the maths and chemistry teacher Matthias Rehder is preparing himself in the language school for his stint in Curahuasi; he plans to join us in August.  We wish all of them a blessed start.

On the other hand, we still have some vacancies that need to be filled.  Please pray that we can fill all the classes.  Good education at a Christian school is a privilege that we want to offer as many children as possible. /CB

Good music was played.
The appeal from the flag – a usual, regular event in Peru – is about to begin.
