If Christians want to change this, they must live their faith convincingly
A good 10% of people in Germany have no idea what is celebrated at Christmas. Three quarters of German citizens will not attend a church service. The vast majority of the population has serious doubts about the historical basis of the church’s celebration of Christmas.
So for most, what remains is a celebration without the original content. They celebrate with their loved ones, reminisce about times gone by and enjoy several sumptuous meals.
However, the current situation described does not have to stay this way. The general crisis of meaning, the increase in loneliness and selfishness as well as the current lack of direction can put the question of God and salvation back on the agenda. It only takes a few Christians who truly exemplify what Paul calls the “fruits of the Holy Spirit”: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, forbearance and self-control. Then it will turn out that the hope of Christians is without real alternative. /KDJ
